The basic types of Visa are Tourist, Temporary Resident, and Permanent Resident.
One of a number of advantages to getting a Temporary Resident Visa, is you do not need to leave Mexico for 1 day every six months to get a new tourist visa.
When in Mexico, if you are a tourist, you carry your passport and original FMM tourist visa card.
If you have a Temporary or Permanent Resident Visa, carry your original Temporary or Permanent Resident card.
